What AI still cannot do (and probably shouldn't)

Knowing the limits is what makes people relaxed about using it. Here is the honest list, each with a practical workaround rather than just a warning.

Start here

  • Give it context every time — it knows nothing about you unless you say so.
  • Never let it be the final word on money, health or law.
  • If accuracy matters, ask for sources and check them yourself.

It does not know you

Unless you tell it, it knows nothing about your life, your family, your business or last week. It is not being coy — there is genuinely nothing there.

  • Workaround: keep a short 'about me' paragraph in a note and paste it in.
  • Workaround: use the memory or custom-instructions setting to store it once.

It cannot reliably tell you what is true

It predicts language that sounds right, which is usually true and occasionally invented — including sources, quotes and figures presented with total confidence.

  • Workaround: ask 'what should I verify here?' and check those items.
  • Workaround: use it to prepare questions for a professional, not to replace one.

It cannot take responsibility

Legal, financial and medical decisions stay with you and the people you pay. No tool carries the consequence of a wrong answer — you do.

It cannot do the things only you can

It has not met your customers, sat with your family, or noticed the thing that felt off in a conversation. Judgement, taste and trust are still yours.

  • Workaround: let it do the first draft and the tidying; keep the deciding.

It does not really care

It can write kind words, and they can be genuinely useful when you are stuck for them. But the warmth your family and your customers feel comes from you.

The best use of the time it saves is spending that time on people.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a confident answer as a checked answer.
  • Sending an AI-written condolence or apology without making it yours.
  • Expecting it to remember something you told it in another conversation.

Questions people ask us

Will it get better at these?

At facts and reasoning, steadily. At taking responsibility for your decisions, no — that stays with you.

So what is it genuinely good at?

First drafts, explaining, summarising, brainstorming, and anything you can check in seconds.

Treat it as a very fast assistant with no judgement and no memory of you. You stay the boss.
